A joint venture (JV) of CSCEC ME and South Korea’s SK Engineering and Construction (SK E&C) has been awarded a contract for Package A of Etihad Rail in Abu Dhabi. HH Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of Etihad Rail, Etihad Rail’s Chief Executive Officer, Shadi Malak, CSCEC ME’s President & CEO, Yu Tao, and SK E&C’s Vice President, Hyuntae Nam, as well as other officials, were present at the signing ceremony.
The scope of work includes design and build, civil and track works, for Package A, which is valued at AED 1.5 Billion, approximately US$ 410 Million.
The 139km route will comprise a standard-gauge double track route running west to connect Ruwais with Ghuweifat on the border with Saudi Arabia. Package A’s focus includes earthworks, bridges, tunnels, animal crossings, track-laying, and links to Stage 1 of Etihad Rail. This will require 1.3 million tonnes of ballast, more than 400,000 concrete sleepers and 33,000 tonnes of rail.
Winning the award indicates that CSCEC ME’s comprehensive capability in the UAE’s infrastructure construction industry has been widely recognized by the UAE’s local and federal government authorities. The award of the contract is also a major milestone for CSCEC ME to upgrade its future business model in order to promote the One Belt One Road Initiative.
